Denmark – Vattenfall establishes the largest warehouse in Northern Europe to stock essential wind turbine main components and spare parts.
When completed in 2022, the warehouse will be located in the Danish port of Esbjerg. It wills serve wind farms in the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, and Northern Europe.
Vattenfall will soon begin building of a new, huge warehouse facility at the Port of Esbjerg. It consists of a 2,100 square meter interior warehouse and an 8,200 square meter outdoor storage facility.
A central warehouse in Esbjerg will supply the majority of Vattenfall’s wind farms in Northern Europe. This includes critical main components such as gearboxes, generators, transformers, shafts, and blades, as well as critical main components for bringing the electricity on shore, such as array cables and switchgear. The warehouse will complement the dedicated warehouses that will continue to serve the wind farms individually.
Vattenfall operates about 1,300 onshore and offshore wind turbines across Northern Europe, from Northern Sweden to Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands. Currently, Vattenfall’s local control center in Esbjerg monitors the farms. The town will also serve as the hub for a central warehouse for these wind farms in the future.
Dennis Jul Pedersen, CEO of the Port of Esbjerg, expresses his appreciation for the new storage. He is particularly pleased because he views it as validation that the policy of dedicating 150,000 square meters of the former ferry terminal to these types of initiatives is the appropriate one.
Construction begins at the end of June and will last approximately ten months. The warehouse must be stocked and fully operational by June 2022.
