Germany/France – Heading France’s wind power revolution, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has been awarded a contract by EDF Renewables-Enbridge-wpd consortium for an offshore wind power project of 448 MW in Courseulles-sur-Mer.
Located 10 km off the coast of Bessin, the project takes the overall capacity allotted to Siemens Gamesa by the consortium in France to approximately 1 GW. Both the nacelles and blades of the Courseulles-sur-Mer wind turbine are expected to be manufactured at the Siemens Gamesa plant currently under construction in Le Havre.
The 448 MW project will focus on the stable technology of the SWT-7.0-154 Direct Drive offshore wind turbine, one of the most deployed offshore turbine fleets in the world. Installation and commissioning of the Courseulles-sur-Mer project is expected for 2024.
Additional MW
In France, Siemens Gamesa has an additional firm order for the 496 MW bay of Saint Brieuc offshore wind power plant with Ailes Marines. In addition, Siemens Gamesa was named preferred provider for the 496 MW Dieppe le Tréport and 496 MW Yeu Noirmoutier offshore wind ventures.
The Siemens Gamesa facility under construction at the Quai Joannès Couvert in the Port of Le Havre will be the first in the world to produce full offshore nacelles and blades under one roof. It is the biggest commercial investment in the French clean energy sector to date and will be used to supply Siemens Gamesa offshore wind plants in France and possibly abroad. The start of operation of the plant is expected to take place in the first half of 2022.
