As of October of this year, Gasunie anticipates that the Zuidbroek nitrogen plant will be fully operational based on new information from the principal contractor, Air Products.
The installation will be tested during the summer and progressively turned on for a safe delivery when the building is finished in the spring.
As the principal contractor in charge of building the Zuidbroek nitrogen plant, Air Products told client Gasunie in January that its subcontract with Ballast Nedam Industriebouw had been terminated. An ongoing dispute between the two parties led to the termination of the partnership.
Beginning in 2020, the nitrogen plant’s construction had many delays. Plans are for the installation to be finished in April 2022. After work ceased last summer, it appeared that the factory may be finished in October 2022. Thus, that will be after one year.
Foreign gas
Gasunie highlights that the Groningen field’s gas extraction is unaffected by this condition. Due to the substantial decline in market demand brought on by the high gas prices, the current nitrogen installations can supply the need for nitrogen in a suitable amount. The Zuidbroek nitrogen plant’s goal is to provide foreign gas with the proper requirements for usage in the Netherlands.
