Denmark – Ørsted and Equinor have inked an agreement under which Equinor would send Norwegian gas to Denmark via the Baltic Pipe.
The contract’s duration is from 1 January 2023 to 1 April 2024, and the total amount of gas provided during that time will be about 8 TWh, or almost a quarter of the anticipated gas consumption in Denmark.
Supply security
Since the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline connects the Norwegian gas pipe system to Denmark, Ørsted is now able to purchase gas from the Norwegian gas fields.
With the help of this arrangement, South Arne field production, and biogas production, Ørsted has more than enough energy to meet the needs of its own clients, which include companies in Denmark and Sweden. The agreement improves Denmark’s supply security while also substituting for the gas quantities that Ørsted would have otherwise had to purchase on the erratic European gas market when the Tyra field is not producing gas to Denmark.
