Next stop Hyte: Green ammonia in Wilhelmshaven

HYTE

June 28th we visited Wilhelmshaven – Uniper is developing an import terminal capable of converting green ammonia back into hydrogen. The energy company also plans to build an electrolysis plant at the site to produce green hydrogen itself with a capacity of up to 1GW. The company further wants to explore the possibility of directly connecting the plant to an offshore wind farm in the North Sea. The Wilhelmshaven site of Uniper offers all the necessary preconditions for creating Germany’s first major hydrogen hub. Green hydrogen is a fundamental prerequisite on the  journey of steel company Salzgitter AG toward Salcos – Salzgitter Low CO2-Steelmaking.
