Switzerland – Since two years Hydrospider runs a 2 MW green hydrogen plant in the the Swiss Alps. The power is coming from the Alpiq Gösgen hydropower plant, which is over 100 years old. July 1rst, HYdrogen Trail Europe (HYTE) will visit the plant.
Hydrospider, a joint venture between H2 Energy, Alpiq and Linde Gas (PanGas) is heading towards more sustainable, emission-free heavy goods transport in Switzerland. Together with Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility and the H2 Mobility Switzerland Association, the joint venture currently is establishing a hydrogen ecosystem for emission-free mobility that is unique in Europe.
Fivefold
At the moment the 2-MW plant from Hydrospider will produce around 300 tons of hydrogen a year, which equates to the annual consumption of 40 to 50 trucks or around 1700 passenger cars. There are plans to increase the capacity of the plant fivefold in the relatively near future.
1,600 trucks
By 2025, some 1,600 fuel-cell electric heavy-duty trucks by Hyundai will be on Switzerland’s roads. The greenhouse gas emissions caused by heavy goods transport will be dramatically reduced: A fuel cell electric heavy-duty truck travelling around 80,000 km a year achieves an annual saving of 70 to 75 metric tons of CO2.
