Reforming production of hydrogen

Hydrogen

Belgium ZoneFlow Reactor Technologies and Honeywell have established a collaboration to commercialize ZoneFlow Reactor Technology.

This approach has the potential to significantly increase the efficiency and carbon intensity of steam methane reforming for hydrogen production. The ZoneFlow technology, when combined with Honeywell H2 Solutions’ carbon capture for hydrogen generation, will make low-carbon hydrogen production more efficient and less expensive.

The ZoneFlow Reactor, a structural catalyst module that substitutes typical catalyst pellets in SMR tubes, offers significantly improved heat transfer and pressure drop performance.

UOP and ZFRT will work together to conduct reactive testing at ZFRT’s large-scale pilot plant at the UniversitĂ© Catholique de Louvain in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. The reactive testing will confirm the anticipated 15% increase in throughput over typical catalyst pellet systems. The results of the pilot plant tests should be available by mid-2022.
