New partnership to provide green container transportation

Hydrogen

Norway – Aker Clean Hydrogen and Kuehne+Nagel have teamed up to help decarbonize the maritime logistics industry by providing green container transportation.

Hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol will be added to Kuehne+Nagel’s green fuel portfolio, according to the two companies.

The first ships powered by these alternative fuels are expected to hit the water in 2024, and production is already underway. First generation fossil-free engines face a challenge in sourcing these fuels in the early days. Both companies hope that this collaboration will help them scale up fossil-free shipping as soon as possible. Kuehne+Nagel works with their carrier partners to book contracts for environmentally friendly containers while Aker Clean Hydrogen ensures that green fuels are available.

Clean hydrogen and methanol engines are already being discussed by Aker Clean Hydrogen and Kuehne+Nagel with container ship owners who also share the goal of eliminating the use of fossil fuels in shipping. It will soon be possible for customers to purchase the right amount of green fuel for their cargo through Kuehne+Nagel’s partnership with these carriers and immediately reduce CO2 emissions in their supply chains.
