United States – Chevron U.S.A. and Caterpillar have partnered to develop hydrogen demonstration projects in transportation and stationary power applications, including prime power.
The collaboration’s purpose is to prove hydrogen’s viability and performance as an economically viable alternative to existing fuels for long-distance rail and marine vessels.
The cooperation also aims to show the usage of hydrogen in primary electricity. The partners agreed to demonstrate a hydrogen-fueled locomotive and associated hydrogen-fueling infrastructure as part of the collaboration, which was facilitated by Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company.
Work on the rail demonstration will begin immediately in a variety of places throughout the United States.
