Nel and Statkraft partner on green hydrogen in Norway

Hydrogen

Norway – Nel and Statkraft will work to build a solid value chain for the production of green hydrogen in Norway after signing a contract for the delivery of electrolyser equipment totaling 40 MW.

The announcement was made in conjunction with Robert Habeck, the vice chancellor of Germany, visiting the fully automated electrolyser production facility at Heroya, Norway, owned by Nel. Along with his colleague, Minister of Petroleum and Energy Terje Lien Aasland, the delegation also includes Norwegian Minister of Trade and Industry Jan Christian Vestre.

Renewable hydrogen

Nel just received a purchase order from Statkraft for 40 MW of alkaline electrolyser machinery. The electrolyser stacks will be made at Nel’s manufacturing facility in Heroya and utilized in one of Statkraft’s several hydrogen projects to produce renewable hydrogen.

Statkraft has the goal of increasing its yearly development rate to 4 GW of new power generation per year and to add 2 GW of renewable hydrogen production by 2030. Statkraft will increase its efforts in Norway to generate new renewable energy production and flexibility in on- and offshore hydropower and wind generation.
