Altrad Babcock becomes main contractor for Scottish hydrogen project

Hydrogen

United Kingdom – Altrad Babcock has been chosen as the principal contractor for the world’s first green hydrogen gas network project in Fife, Scotland, which will provide green hydrogen to up to 300 houses.

For the benefit of gas distribution business SGN, Altrad Babcock will have to draw on its vast experience in completing challenging engineering and construction projects, such as developing the hydrogen production and storage plant. The project’s scope will include the development of all essential project components, including the construction of structures, mechanical work, electrical control, and instrumentation (EC&I).

H100 Fife

On Fife’s east coast, in Levenmouth, there is a groundbreaking project called H100 Fife. In 2024, up to 300 homes will have the option to receive hydrogen through a new distribution system, offering zero-carbon fuel for cooking and heating. It will be the first entirely green, zero-carbon hydrogen-to-homes network anywhere in the world, proving that the entire British gas network is capable of supplying hydrogen gas.
