France – Engie takes a ‘Final investment decision’  on €110m Franco-German hydrogen pipeline project MosaHYc. With the mosaHYc project, Engie has reached the first milestone in its goal of building 700 km of hydrogen transport networks in Europe by 2030.

MosaHYc is a cross-border project for the conversion of gas pipelines to transport hydrogen between France and Saarland (Germany).

GRTgaz, an independent subsidiary of ENGIE Group, has announced the final investment decision for the 90 km renewable or low-carbon hydrogen network project with its partner Creos Deutschland.

GRTgaz will spend €40m on its 50km of pipelines — 45km of which will consist of converted natural-gas pipes, while German gas network operator Creos has committed €70m to its roughly 40km section, which will include 20km of new pipes.

Creos, which is developing the Saarland part of the project, says the FID still depends on state funding from the German government.

The first client will be the Saarland-based steelmaking site in Dillingen operated by RoheisenGessellschaft Saar SHS (Stahl Holding Saar group), in Germany.

The final investment decision enables the launch of the administrative authorizations phase, followed by the construction and network conversion phase, with commissioning scheduled for 2027.

The mosaHYc project will contribute to these regions’ economic and industrial appeal, while at the same time helping them to meet their decarbonisation targets for industry and mobility.
