Spain – Lhyfe has set its sights on the development of a cutting-edge green hydrogen plant in Spain. The venture, boasting a substantial production capacity of up to 5 tonnes per day, has received a noteworthy financial boost with a grant of up to €14 million from H2 Pioneros.

Situated in the industrial heartland of Vallmoll, Tarragona, the new plant aims to cater to the escalating demand for green hydrogen from various industrial entities in the region. The potential client base includes companies operating in chemical and other industrial sectors seeking to transition from conventional fossil fuels (grey hydrogen and natural gas) to sustainable green hydrogen in their production processes. Additionally, transport and logistics companies are anticipated to embrace the shift towards less polluting vehicles, such as hydrogen-powered electric vehicles.

H2 Pioneros financing

Lhyfe’s project secured its place among the chosen few, being one of only 14 initiatives across Spain in 2023 awarded grant financing through H2 Pioneros, out of a total of 81 projects submitted. The grant, covering design phases, equipment procurement, and construction, constitutes approximately half of the total estimated investment required. The first kilos of green hydrogen are anticipated to roll off the production line in 2026.

However, the project’s realization hinges on the acquisition of operating authorizations, construction permits, and crucial financial investment decisions.
