The Netherlands – Dutch offshore wind farm developer CrossWind, in collaboration with Rosetti Marino, has embarked on an ambitious project to construct the world’s first megawatt-scale green hydrogen production and storage facility within the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm.

The innovative Baseload Power Hub aims to address the intermittent nature of wind power by converting excess wind energy into green hydrogen for later conversion back into electricity.

The Baseload Power Hub, a groundbreaking endeavor within the renewable energy sector, seeks to harness the potential of offshore wind farms in a unique way. By integrating a megawatt-scale pilot plant into the wind farm, CrossWind aims to store excess wind energy as green hydrogen, ensuring a steady and reliable power supply even when wind conditions are inconsistent. The facility will incorporate an electrolyzer for hydrogen production, fuel cells for electricity generation, and batteries for short-term energy storage.

By coupling offshore wind power with green hydrogen production, the Baseload Power Hub showcases the potential of integrating electricity generation, storage, and hydrogen conversion systems. This innovative approach not only addresses the intermittent nature of wind power but also paves the way for a more flexible and efficient energy system.

Rosetti Marino scope

Rosetti Marino, a reputable engineering and construction company, has been awarded the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation, and Commissioning contract for the Baseload Power Hub. As the first platform of its kind globally, the project will enable Rosetti Marino to diversify its expertise into the renewable energy sector while contributing to the circular economy. The company’s involvement underscores its commitment to driving the energy transition and expanding its portfolio of sustainable projects.

With activities set to commence immediately, the collaborative efforts between CrossWind and Rosetti Marino are projected to be completed by the end of 2025.
