Germany – A contract was reached by TotalEnergies and VNG, a German natural gas distribution business, to start supplying green hydrogen to TotalEnergies’ Leuna refinery in the future.

According to the deal, VNG and its partner Uniper will construct and run a 30 MW electrolyzer in Bad LauchstƤdt to manufacture green hydrogen from renewable electricity.

Cutting CO2 emissions

By 2030, this agreement will cut the Leuna refinery’s yearly CO2 emissions by up to 80,000 tons and help the facility become carbon neutral.

Additionally, the Leuna refinery will have access to the future European hydrogen infrastructure as well as the global markets for green hydrogen thanks to the pipeline link to the Bad LauchstƤdt Energy Park.
