Spain/Portugal – Lhyfe and Capital Energy have collaborated on the development of offshore renewable hydrogen projects in Spain and Portugal.
The joint venture between Lhyfe and Capital Energy will be dedicated to creating hydrogen production facilities at offshore wind farm locations that Capital Energy is currently developing. The Spanish energy giant already has a sizable development pipeline in both nations totaling more than 7.5 GW.
In terms of economic impact and social impact, the partnership between the two businesses has substantial advantages. Economies of scale can be attained, resulting in cost savings, by merging offshore wind farms and hydrogen manufacturing facilities. Additionally, the projects will provide job opportunities and include a greater variety of suppliers and experts.
Extra electricity
These projects have broader effects on the entire energy system. The controllability of wind power generation can be improved, decreasing curtailments, by incorporating wind energy generated from offshore wind farms into the hydrogen synthesis process. When the grid is overloaded, extra electricity can be used to produce hydrogen, providing the best possible use of renewable energy sources.
The collaboration between Capital Energy and Lhyfe may eventually expand to other markets, enlarging the scope of their joint initiatives.
