UAE – The largest Oil, Gas & Chemicals firm in the UAE has awarded Proton Ventures a FEED+ engineering package for a new ammonia export terminal.

The largest ammonia tanks ever constructed in the Middle East will be part of the project, which began in January 2022 and will be completed in the third quarter of that year.

It has Proton Ventures design elements that have previously been used in other ammonia terminals across the world, together with equipment design and safety regulations.

Equipment

The ammonia export terminal is built to function in situations that are far hotter than 50 °C. To ensure speedy installation on site, good inspectability, and uncompromising dependability, all particular precautions have been taken in sizing the terminal for desert-proof operation.

Highlights of Proton’s Design:

  • Special fundamentally secure main discharge bottom valve for tanks
  • Combining a staircase, an interconnecting bridge, and intermittent flare will increase efficiency, simplicity, and capital expenditures.
  • Low OpEx and optimized refrigeration system design for hot environment operations

Ammonia as a energy vector

Proton creates designs that enable the energy transition from carbon to hydrogen fuels via the NH3 molecule. The flow of thousands of tons of ammonia from the MENA area to Northern Europe and the US/Canada will depend on this terminal once it is operational.
