Denmark – Everfuel plans to build a hydrogen hub in Holstebro, Denmark.
The hub will be built in two stages. In phase one, the hub partners will investigate e-methane generation and the use of hydrogen in industrial gas burners to manufacture e-methane at local biogas facilities and begin testing using hydrogen in existing natural gas pipelines. The first phase is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
Everfuel plans to construct a 100 MW electrolyzer, a hydrogen terminal, a distribution center, and a hydrogen refueling station for both heavy-duty and passenger vehicles in phase two. The electrolysis facility’s location has already been determined, and construction is set to begin in 2025.
Denmark hydrogen target
Everfuel, the local municipality, and the other hub partners will cooperate to make Holstebro a greener city by investigating the use of green hydrogen in industrial processes and mobility.
Denmark has set a target of producing 4-6GW of green hydrogen per year by 2030, making it one of the most ambitious in Europe. Danish lawmakers decided to 1.25 billion Danish crowns in subsidies through a single tender targeted at boosting production and making green hydrogen more commercially viable.
The policy’s major goal is to manufacture green fuel from hydrogen to power aircraft, ships, and trucks. Hydrogen is a green fuel for trucks and maybe short-distance airplanes and vessels, while ammonia and methanol, both generated from hydrogen, are being examined as potential shipping fuels.
