The Netherlands – HyCC and Port of Amsterdam are launching the H2era project to build a 500 megawatt green hydrogen plant in the Amsterdam port. The parties aim to take a big step towards making industry and mobility in the North Sea Canal area more sustainable.
‘The use of hydrogen is crucial to reduce emissions from industries such as steel, chemicals and aviation’, says Marcel Galjee, Managing Director HyCC. It is envisaged that HyCC will take the new plant into operation in 2027. HyCC and Port of Amsterdam have completed an initial feasibility study for this purpose. The project will be further developed in the coming months.
Hydrogen network
The hydrogen will be used to make existing regional industries more sustainable and can also be used for green mobility. Discussions are underway with various parties for this purpose. In the future, the plant can also be connected to the national hydrogen network to enable exchange between industrial clusters.
Tata Steel
HyCC is also already working together with Port of Amsterdam and Tata Steel on project H2ermes, for the realization of a 100 megawatt hydrogen plant on the Tata Steel IJmuiden site.
