Algeria – Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi and Sonatrach CEO Toufik Hakkar signed two agreements in Algiers outlining forthcoming joint initiatives on energy supply, energy transformation, and decarbonization.
In order to support both energy security and a sustainable energy transition, Eni and Sonatrach will define energy efficiency initiatives, renewable energy developments, green hydrogen projects, and carbon dioxide capture and storage programs through these agreements.
Additionally, these initiatives will find ways to cut greenhouse gas and methane gas emissions. Additionally, the companies will conduct research to identify viable answers to improve Algeria’s capacity to export energy to Europe.
Eni has been active in Algeria since 1981. Eni, which operates on an equity basis and produces 100,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, is the main foreign company in the country.
