Baltic Pipe partners Gaz-System and Energinet advance green energy

Energy Hydrogen

Poland/Denmark – Gaz-System and Energinet have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, reaffirming their commitment to accelerating the energy transition and enhancing regional energy security in Europe.

The agreement, which was inked at the Baltic Pipe gala event, demonstrates the operators’ dedication on decarbonization through the development of green gases and low- and zero-carbon energy sources including biomethane and hydrogen.

Baltic Pipe

The main objective of the partnership between Energinet and Gaz-System is to guarantee a safe and continuous supply of natural gas through the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline. By collaborating with market participants in the Baltic Sea region, Central and Eastern Europe, and Ukraine, both operators also hope to take advantage of Baltic Pipe’s excess capacity. Additionally, they have committed to developing and putting into practice national policies and plans in the area of energy transition in order to match their efforts with the EU’s climate goals.

Gaz-System and Energinet will work with global business associations and form specialized collaborative working groups to accomplish their goals. To spur innovation and put required measures in place, these groups will concentrate on diverse research and development fields, such as hydrogen, biomethane, and Baltic Pipe.

Working together

The operators have agreed to work together on the sectoral priorities of the incoming Polish and Danish presidencies of the Council of the European Union in 2025 in addition to their immediate objectives. Through this partnership, they show their commitment to influencing the regional and European energy landscape.

The Baltic Pipe pipeline’s successful installation and operation last year is evidence of the productive collaboration between Gaz-System and Energinet. The pipeline links the Danish and Polish gas networks to Norwegian gas pipes in the North Sea, ensuring a consistent and varied gas supply throughout Denmark and the Baltic Sea region.

Building on the united political statement issued by Baltic Sea countries in August 2022, the new Memorandum of Cooperation. Poland, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Denmark made a commitment to deepen their collaboration in the development of green energy and the provision of energy. The partnership between Gaz-System and Energinet represents an important step in achieving the two parties’ shared goal of a safe and secure energy future for Europe.
