United Kingdom – The Rivenhall Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF) and Energy Centre project in Essex, United Kingdom, has been awarded to Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI), a global green-tech company.

For over a year, HZI has been preparing the contract with Indaver for the Rivenhall project. Working alongside civil contractor PJ Hegarty Limited and earth moving contractor Tom Blackwell Limited, HZI will construct the Energy from Waste (EfW) element of the IWMF and Energy Centre.

Energy from Waste

The first phase of construction, which started in March 2021, is now complete, with 3 million tonnes of soil removed from the site. This has cleared the way for the start of the other contracts. With a capacity of 595,000 tonnes per year, the Energy from Waste portion of the facility is on track to start commercial operations in Q1 2026.

The IWMF’s total permitted capacity, including other waste management activities, is 853,000 tonnes per year. The IWMF is expected to invest up to £600 million in total.
