Vattenfall, Stromma invest in electrification of Amsterdam canal boats

Electrification

The Netherlands – Electric sightseeing boats that emit no emissions are being invested in by Vattenfall and Stromma Group. Starting with the canal boats in Amsterdam, all of which will be electric by 2025.

The Stromma Group has partnered with Vattenfall to electrify its boat fleet in order to provide transportation free of fossil fuels. The Stromma Group operates in six countries and 19 locations, including Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Oslo, Helsinki, and Stockholm.

The collaboration’s initial phase will concentrate on powering canal boats in Amsterdam. By 2025, emission-free operation of the city’s canal boats will be required, and Vattenfall will provide the battery system.

Emission-free fleet

“The partnership with Stromma is a shining example of how we can jointly drive electrification forward and eventually enable a completely emission-free fleet. Our ‘Power-as-a-Service’ concept is based on us owning, managing and taking responsibility for the operation and maintenance of electrical infrastructure,” says Maria Lindberg, responsible for electrification of heavy transport at Vattenfall Network Solutions.
