Spain – TotalEnergies and Honeywell established a strategic partnership to further the development of breakthrough plastic recycling technologies.
With this arrangement, Honeywell will supply TotalEnergies with recycled polymer feedstock (RPF), which will be processed using Honeywell’s UpCycle Process Technology at the newly announced Honeywell and Sacyr advanced recycling plant, which is planned to be built in Andaluca, Spain.
TotalEnergies will acquire this raw material and turn it into virgin-quality polymers that can be utilized in food-grade packaging and other high-demanding applications, according to the company.
Diverese applications
There are plans to process and convert 30,000 tons of mixed plastic waste each year into RFP at the UpCycle plant, which will be controlled by a joint venture between Honeywell and Sacyr. This material would otherwise be headed for landfill or cremation.
In 2023, the UpCycle facility is planned to begin operations, and the RPF produced will be utilized to manufacture high-quality polymers in TotalEnergies’ European-based manufacturing facilities. It is envisaged that the recycled polymers would have characteristics that are equal to those of virgin polymers, making them ideal for a wide range of applications, including food-grade applications such as flexible and rigid food packaging containers.
