The Netherlands – LyondellBasell has acquired a 50% stake in Stiphout Industries, a company specializing in the sourcing and processing of post-consumer plastic packaging waste.

The increasing concern over plastic pollution and its detrimental impact on the environment has prompted industries worldwide to seek sustainable solutions. The circular economy model aims to minimize waste and maximize resource efficiency by promoting recycling, reusing, and reducing the consumption of finite resources.

LyondellBasell, a global leader in the production of advanced polymer materials, is committed to embracing circular economy principles. By investing in companies like Stiphout, the company aims to bolster its recycling and plastic waste processing capabilities, supporting its integrated hub model in the Netherlands and Germany.

Pioneer in Plastic Recycling

Founded in 2015, Stiphout has steadily grown as a key player in the Netherlands’ plastic recycling landscape. The company has garnered expertise in processing plastic household waste, converting it into clean flakes of recycled polypropylene (PP) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) materials. This innovative approach not only addresses the issue of plastic waste but also contributes to the creation of a more sustainable and eco-friendly future.

LyondellBasell’s partnership with Stiphout represents a strategic collaboration that capitalizes on local synergies and operational excellence. With an annual processing capacity equivalent to the plastic packaging waste generated by over 500,000 Dutch citizens, Stiphout’s facility in Montfort, the Netherlands, holds the potential to significantly contribute to plastic waste reduction.

Through this collaboration, LyondellBasell aims to leverage its existing assets and integrated hub model, streamlining logistics and operations with its Quality Circular Polymers business. The acquisition also paves the way for expanding the CirculenRecover portfolio, enabling the creation of innovative solutions that align with circular and low-carbon targets for customers and brand owners.
