The Netherlands – TES, one of the world’s largest battery and electronic waste recycling companies, is constructing a factory in Rotterdam’s port.

The construction was given symbolic approval by European Commissioner Frans Timmermans. It will be the first lithium-ion battery recycling plant in the Netherlands. The number of electric vehicles on the road will increase exponentially in the coming years, as will demand for raw materials used to make batteries, particularly cobalt, nickel, and lithium. There will also be a large supply of electric vehicle batteries that will need to be recycled. TES has a recycling process that allows raw materials to be returned to the battery industry.

In the port of Rotterdam, TES aims to have a capacity of 25,000 tonnes. The plant will be able to process 10,000 tonnes of batteries once the first phase of the project is completed in late 2022. Raw materials for new batteries will be recovered, including cobalt, nickel, and lithium.
