FuelCell Energy and ExxonMobil work on fuel cell CCS technology

CCUS Hydrogen

United States – FuelCell Energy and ExxonMobil have agreed to extend the term of their joint development agreement in order to continue working on fuel cell carbon capture and storage technology.

The agreement will help bring the technology closer to commercialization by assisting in the exploration of market applications in three areas.

Development steps

The first is to keep developing technology to better understand the operating envelope of fuel cells for various carbon capture applications. The second goal is to complete technology readiness in preparation for a possible deployment of the technology in a carbon-capture fuel cell module demonstration at an ExxonMobil facility.

Finally, a joint market study will be conducted to define application opportunities, commercialization strategies, and potential partners for industrial carbon capture demonstrations.
