Equinor and Battelle to develop CCS in US Appalachian Basin

United States – Equinor and Battelle have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to advance the development of a decarbonized regional energy cluster in the tri-state region of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

The partnership will allow for the timely and gradual development of one of the country’s first low-carbon industrial regions. Equinor and Battelle will collaborate on stakeholder outreach and conduct feasibility research to evaluate the regional prospects for carbon capture and storage (CCS).

“The Appalachian Basin is an important energy-producing region that also shows great promise in being a leader for the decarbonization of American industry,” said Chris Golden, Equinor U.S. country manager.

Equinor has years of experience with CCS projects of various sizes, while Battelle is a leader in geologic carbon dioxide capture.
