Announcement of areas related to CO2 storage

CCUS

NorwayThe Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy invites applications for two locations for CO2 injection and storage on the Norwegian continental shelf.

The statement is made in compliance with the CO2 Storage Regulations, and is based on interest from a number of industry participants.

Several industry players have approached the government requesting allocation of two specific locations for CO2 storage. One is located in the North Sea, while the other is located in the Barents Sea. On the basis of this interest, the Ministry is making this announcement.

Permission seeking

As outlined in the White Paper Putting Energy to Work, which was presented prior to the summer, exploration and usage permits are published and distributed in response to specific announcements and needs. Players seeking a permission in line with the CO2 Storage Regulations commence the process. They may apply if they believe they have a sufficiently sound basis for doing so.

The application deadline is set for 12:00 p.m. on 9 December 2021.
