Sweden – Aker Carbon Capture has partnering with Nordbex AB to integrate carbon capture units into a pioneering power generation project in Sweden.

The primary goal of the collaboration between Aker Carbon Capture and Nordbex AB is to establish a carbon-negative power generation project in southern Sweden. By utilizing biogenic feedstock from local forestry and industries, the project aims to produce clean electricity while capturing and sequestering carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This aligns with Sweden’s overarching vision to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045 and pave the way for sustainable energy solutions.

Modular carbon capture

Aker Carbon Capture will deploy its Just Catch 100 modular carbon capture units to capture up to 200,000 tonnes per year of CO2 emitted during the gasification process and combustion of synthesis gas in gas engines. The captured CO2, originating from biogenic sources, will be liquefied and transported for permanent geological storage, resulting in negative CO2 emissions. This innovative technology underscores the potential of bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) to play a pivotal role in decarbonizing the energy sector.

Sweden’s commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2045 necessitates innovative solutions like BECCS to achieve negative net CO2 emissions. This project has the potential to serve as a model for other countries striving to combat climate change effectively.
