Austria – Messer, the world’s largest privately-owned industrial gas specialist, is teaming up with a leading inorganic chemical manufacturer to implement carbon capture and utilization (CCU) technology. The project, situated in Landeck, Austria, leverages Sulzer’s cutting-edge mass transfer technologies to capture and repurpose over 50,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
The primary objective of this collaboration is to combat carbon emissions stemming from calcium carbide production. By employing Sulzer Chemtech’s carbon capture technology, specifically the BASF OASE Blue system, Messer aims to transform this environmental challenge into a valuable resource. The captured CO2 will find applications in the food and beverage industry, greenhouse fertilizers, and even fire extinguishers, marking a significant stride towards circular carbon utilization.
