Norway – Aker Carbon Capture has been awarded a full FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) contract by Hafslund Oslo Celsio (Celsio) to develop carbon capture technology at their waste-to-energy facility at Klemetsrud in Oslo, Norway.
This marks a significant step forward for the Oslo CCS project, which aims to capture up to 400,000 tonnes of CO2 per year from the waste incineration plant, reducing Oslo’s fossil carbon emissions by 17%.
Aker Carbon Capture’s Just Catch 400 modularized carbon capture unit will be used for the project. This technology has been successfully validated in seven carbon capture units across Norway, Denmark, and the Netherlands.
Viability of CCS technology
The Oslo CCS project has the potential to revolutionize the waste-to-energy industry by demonstrating the viability of carbon capture technology for these facilities. This could lead to the widespread adoption of carbon capture technology, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the waste sector.
