Norway – A collaborative cooperation agreement for the development of a low pressure mid-stream shipping system for carbon capture and storage has been reached between Hunter Group ASA and DNV.

The parties have agreed to collaborate on the creation of a 40–70K cbm liquified CO2 carrier with 20–30K cbm feeder vessels with the goal of achieving specific objectives for a sustainable CCS shipping solution to be used on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and in European seas.

Alternative fuels

We’ll evaluate hull and cargo tank designs as well as technological and operational measures. As part of this study, alternative fuels like ammonia, methanol, fuel cells, and CO2 abatement technologies will also be assessed.

CCS will be essential in helping the world achieve net zero emissions by 2050. A significant amount of the CO2 that is gathered will be transported by sea, necessitating the use of numerous huge CO2 carriers. While short-term objectives can be accomplished with technology that is currently in use, intermediate and long-term sustainable solutions need to be researched and developed.
