Sweden – For a new biogas plant in Sweden, Wärtsilä will provide an upgrading and liquefaction solution for biogas.

The facility will be used to lessen transportation-related carbon emissions and hasten the switch to renewable energy. The order was made by the energy firm St1, and it will be installed at the Bors Energi och Miljö facility in Sobacken, which is close to the Swedish city of Bors. By the end of 2023, the plant is anticipated to be completely operational.

BioLNG and biomethane

The facility will convert biogas from municipal waste and wastewater treatment facilities into bioLNG that can be used. It will be the first installation of its sort to be able to simultaneously produce both bioLNG and biomethane.

The plant will be able to produce 10 tons of bioLNG per day once it is operating. Wärtsilä will support the facility in addition to providing the equipment with a spare parts package and a service agreement. The project has received funding from Klimatklivet, a Swedish investment program for initiatives that lessen their influence on the environment.
