Spain – Acciona Energy will construct a 49.9MW biomass power plant in the Spanish municipality of Logrosán, Cáceres.
The expected yearly production of the Logrosán plant is 376 GWh, which is equivalent to taking nearly 65,000 automobiles off the road or planting 300,000 trees. This will save the emission of more than 165,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
The Ministry for Ecological Transition and Sustainability of the Autonomous Community of Extremadura has previously issued a favorable Environmental Impact Statement for the biomass plant, which is situated 10 kilometers from the municipality’s urban core. In order to start supplying energy in the second half of 2025, Acciona Energy intends to start building the plant in the second quarter of 2023.
Helping local economy
A factory with a surface area of 90,000 square meters and a storage space of 110,000 square meters will be built as part of the project. The plant’s estimated annual biomass consumption, primarily from the environment, is 261,000 metric tons per year from agricultural and forestry sources. By encouraging activities for the use of agricultural and forestry waste, the plant will help the local economy while preventing fires by stimulating the cleaning and clearance of the mountains and the dehesa.
Along with social action initiatives to support local growth and employment, the industrial project will have plans to oversee the preservation and regeneration of the native flora and wildlife.
