Asia-Pacific branch of Dutch GoodFuels delivers biofuel to NYK

Biobased

The Netherlands/Singapore – GoodFuels, a Dutch-based biofuels pioneer for the global transport industry, has successfully supplied sustainable marine biofuel to NYK’s bulk carrier MV Frontier Explorer, the company’s first such delivery to a major maritime client since opening its Singapore office.

On its way from Australia to India, the MV Frontier Explorer made a port stop in Singapore where it was refueled with biofuel mixed with VLSFO. The delivery was the first to be managed as part of the May announcement of the partnership between GoodFuels and ITOCHU. GoodFuels handled sourcing, technical know-how, and sales while ITOCHU handled logistics, blending, and distribution of the biofuel blend. GoodFuels also closely collaborated with NYK’s technical and commercial team. In order to complete the bunkering, GoodFuels also collaborated with a certified bunker supplier.

The bunkering represents a significant accomplishment for GoodFuels, which was quick to respond to the region’s growing demand for low-carbon marine fuels. It demonstrates the toughness and resilience of GoodFuels’ recently established biofuel supply chain in Singapore, putting the business in a position to serve its customers in several locations and take on more orders for sustainable marine biofuel in the near future. Additionally, it heralds the next stage of the developing partnership between GoodFuels and NYK. In Rotterdam, GoodFuels first provided biofuel to a vessel owned by NYK in January 2019.

Commitment to sustainability

By identifying potential feedstocks, the two organizations will collaborate to scale up supply of sustainable marine biofuel in Asia Pacific as part of their partnership with ITOCHU, which saw the companies agree to cooperate on providing access to sustainable marine biofuels in all Singaporean territorial waters, waterways, and harbors.

An independent sustainability board evaluates every kind of feedstock that GoodFuels uses to make its biofuels in order to verify its commitment to sustainability. All of GoodFuels’ biofuels receive International Sustainability & Carbon Certification, which verifies that the feedstocks are 100% waste or residues and cannot be used for food or feed (ISCC).
