Alfa Laval buys Belgian biofuel processing specialist Desmet

Belgium – Alfa Laval has completed its acquisition of Desmet, a subsidiary of the Desmet Ballestra Group, a global leader in the design and supply of processing plants and technologies for the edible oil and biofuel industries.

Alfa Laval’s position in the field of renewable energy will be strengthened by the acquisition, which will also expand its selection of edible oils.

Desmet will bolster Alfa Laval’s market position by bringing knowledge and experience to speed up future developments in food, feed, and biofuels. Desmet will also support Alfa Laval’s transition to renewable fuels.

Independent function

The acquired company, which had a 2021 revenue of about EUR 300 million and includes the Stolz and Rosedowns operational units and brands, will function independently within Alfa Laval’s Food & Water Division.

Desmet, a company that specializes in providing plants and equipment for the oil seeds & grains industry as well as the oils & derivatives industry, was founded in Belgium in 1946.
